Engineering Ethics

Presentation Description
Ethics is more than just an ideal for Engineers, it is the foundation of our profession. This course will explore the past cases, hypothetical concepts, and the current canons of Ethics from two different engineering societies. The course is broken down into four easily consumed sections: 1. History 2. Canons 3. Current Events 4. Application. Attendees should expect to achieve the following learning objectives at the end of the course:

  • Understand the differences between micro and macro ethics concepts
  • Learn the history of professional ethics in the engineering field, and exploring when the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing of the public became paramount
  • How to incorporate ethics into daily life, so that the big issues aren’t so daunting.

Speaker Bio
Trygve W. Hoff, PE, is the Northeast Region Engineer for the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA). Tryg graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University and his professional experience ranges from environmental consulting in Columbus, Ohio, to architectural engineering in beautiful Lake Tahoe, California. Tryg lives in Madison, Virginia, near the Blue Ridge mountains with his wife, Brooks, on a small 40‐acre horse farm. Tryg has been promoting resilient infrastructure with the ACPA since 2012.
