Description:  Utility conflicts are a common occurrence in storm pipe construction.  Coordination and location of utility conflicts is important to minimizing the impacts.  Utility conflicts can impact design by causing unexpected design change orders.  Construction impacts include change orders, as well as cost and schedule overruns.  Common utility related issues include ineffective utility mapping, improper locating and recording, unknown or overlooked utilities, and challenges of negotiating and coordinating with the utility owners.
