He has more than 15 years of executive service at DOTD. Under his leadership thus far\, DOTD has ushered in project finance and project innovations\, including Public Private Partnerships and Construction Manager at Risk projects. During his tenure as Secretary\, DOTD has awarded more than $4.6 billion in construction projects. \nDr. Wilson is Vice-Chair of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Executive Committee and is the President of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). \nDr. Wilson earned a B.A. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Louisiana and holds a Master of Public Administration degree\, as well as a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy at Southern University. \nShawn and his wife\, Rocki\, reside in Lafayette\, they have two children\, one son-in-law\, and two beautiful grandchildren.

As the Mountain States Director\, he is responsible for educating specifiers\, installers\, and inspectors of gravity pipe systems. His day-to-day consists of conference presentations\, webinars\, event planning\, and meetings with municipal engineers\, installers\, and inspectors in an effect to build proficiency in gravity pipe systems.

I will walk you through a plant tour tailored to your particular audience and then open up the discussion to this audience on things they may have seen or done on similar plant tours. \nSpeaker Bio \nBrian Kolden is a Technical Resource Engineer for County Materials Corporation. Brian’s main function is to educate and promote the use of concrete pipes and structures to the engineering\, municipal and DOT communities. Additional roles include trouble shooting field issues and working out feasible solutions for all parties affected. Prior to joining County Materials Corporation\, Brian spent 30 years on the contracting side working as an engineer on projects such as the Central Artery Tunnel Project (The Big Dig) in Boston\, MA to the Deep Tunnel Project in Milwaukee\, WI. Most of his career has been spent designing and installing earth support systems\, large diameter structures and pipe systems and various infrastructure improvements. Brian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is a licensed professional engineer in civil with the State of Wisconsin.

This information allows agencies to make sound engineering decisions backed by years of data\, which in turn improves resilience of the infrastructure system and maximizes sustainability. \nIn this session we will discuss the current issues and actions that impact such decisions in critical locations such as evacuation routes\, flood prone areas\, emergency access routes\, and others. We will explore how asset management data can be used to help prepare for recovery from major natural disasters\, and to determine the most appropriate mitigation planning. \nSpeaker Bio: \nTrygve Hoff\, P.E.\, ENV SP\, is the Northeast Region Engineer for the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA). Tryg graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University and his professional experience ranges from environmental consulting in Columbus\, Ohio\, to architectural engineering in beautiful Lake Tahoe\, California. He lives in Madison\, Virginia\, near the Blue Ridge mountains with his wife\, Brooks\, on a small 40‐acre horse farm. Tryg is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio\, and an Envision Sustainability Professional. He has been promoting resilient infrastructure with the ACPA since 2012.

Jennifer’s focus is on asset management\, specification consultation\, technical training\, grassroot efforts\, and infrastructure installation best-practices for reinforced concrete pipe and boxes. \nJennifer worked in municipal government for 12 years as a Hydraulics Engineer and a Project Manager and has 8 years of experience on the consulting side. She has more than 23 years of experience in all aspects of civil engineering\, project planning and management. Her expertise of asset management and municipal planning includes research and analysis\, budgeting\, contract management\, specification writing\, QA/QC\, inspection\, construction\, operation\, and maintenance of infrastructure projects. DESCRIPTION:Location:  Grand Ballroom A and B \nSpeaker:  Palisha Sthapit – Oldcastle Infrastructure \nPresentation Description: \nExcavation and Trench Safety presentation will walk the attendees through OSHA’s 29 CFR 1926 Construction Industry Regulations and Standards. The presentation gives an overview of different soil types\, i.e. Stable Rock\, Type A\, Type B and Type C soil. The three different methods of identifying these soils will also be discussed \,i.e. Plasticity Test\, Thumb Penetration Test and Pocket Penetrometer Test. Workers are exposed to various hazards while performing excavation and trenching operations. The presentation discusses protective measures and methods (sloping\, benching\, shoring and shielding) to take precautions against such hazards. \nSpeaker Bio:\n \nPalisha Sthapic is the Technical Resource Engineer at Oldcastle Infrastructure. She lives in Houston and covers Houston\, San Antonio and Austin regions promoting precast concrete drainage products\, national standards\, and specifications\, as well as conducting training. \nShe received her bachelor’s degree in Architectural/Civil Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington with leadership honors. In her senior year of college\, Palisha worked as an intern for American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA). Working under QCast program at ACPA\, she reviewed quality audits of precast drainage products from various producers. After graduation\, she worked as a structural engineer at Tower Engineering Solutions designing and analyzing tower mounts. \nPalisha came to United States in 2017 from Nepal to pursue her education. She speaks four languages and is very passionate about dancing and writing poetry. She loves exploring and meeting new people.
