SUMMARY:Sustainability of Pipe in Europe
DESCRIPTION:Location: Kojo Kamau A – 4th Floor \nSpeakers: Stefan Schemionek – German Concrete Pipe Association\nMarkus Lanzerath – German Concrete Pipe Association\n \nPresentation Description: \nIn 2015 the “Paris Agreement” was signed by 195 countries to reduce CO2-Emissions with the goal to keep the rise in global surface temperature to below 3\,6 °F. As a consequence\, the European Council approved the „European Green Deal“ and derived several European laws and and action plans. Their goal is to reduce the CO2-emissions in Europe by 55 % until 2030 and by 100 % in 2050\, the year that Europe is set to become “climate-neutral.” \nAs a consequence\, the precast concrete industry in Germany faces a rising number of economical as well as technical challenges with regard to the above laws and actions. Together with its members\, the FBS has identified 3 key areas of interest. These are the CO2-footprint of products itself\, the emission of dangerous substances into the environment (e.g. microplastics) and the recycling as part of a circular economy. FBS has commissioned several studies and projects to address these topics. The results show that\, compared to other materials used in sewage systems\, concrete pipes are the most environmentally friendly products and already pave the path to a climate-friendly Europe. \nDr. Lanzerath and Mr. Schemionek will give a detailed presentation on the studies/the results and point out significant advantages of concrete pipes. In addition\, the audience will get a glimpse on what is to come in Europe during the next years with regard to sustainability issues. \nSpeaker Bio: \nStefan Schemionek is an internal consultant to the management of the German Federal Association of Concrete Sewer Systems. He is responsible for Marketing/Public Relations and leads the FBS-section „Building Information Modeling“. His goal\, together with the whole team of FBS\, is to transform the image of concrete sewage systems from „old and outdated“ to „modern and innovative“. \nAfter his degree in automotive engineering\, he worked several years in the automotive supply industry (acoustics / NVH) before becoming general manager in different commercial and manufacturing companies. \n  \n  \n
