SUMMARY:Resilient Design
DESCRIPTION:Location: Frisco 3\, 4\, 5 \nSpeaker:  Jeremy Bowers\, P.E.\, S.E. – SG&H\n \nPresentation Description: \nLearn about how resilience\, sustainability\, and recovery can be incorporated into design. The increased occurrence of wildfires and floods in the United States has highlighted the need to develop an approach to design resilient culvert and storm sewer pipe. The serviceability of these systems is critical to maintaining the functionality and safety of roadways. Join Jeremy Bowers as he reviews how this guide provides a framework\, including best practices\, mitigation measures\, design checks\, and the importance of planning for recovery\, to enhance the resilience of culvert and storm drains exposed to these extreme weather events. \nSpeaker Bio: \nJeremy Bowers is a Senior Consulting Engineer with SGH\, where his work has focused on the analysis\, design\, investigation\, and rehabilitation of buried reinforced concrete\, metal\, and plastic structures for the infrastructure and nuclear industries. He is a member of TRB AKB70 Standing Committee on Culverts\, Buried Bridges and Soil Structure Interaction and chair of AKB70(3) Buried Structure Rehabilitation Subcommittee. He lives in Maryland with his wife\, Karin\, and three children. \n
