Presentation Description:
MDOT is in the early stages of developing an Ancillary Structures Asset Management program for 16 different structure types, including culverts under 10′ in span. This presentation will provide an overview of the program, current tasks and initiatives, next steps and future initiatives. We will also discuss the culvert inventory in Michigan, what inventory and inspection data is collected, inspection procedures and training, and a brief overview of some common issues we are discovering and overall network health relative to culverts.
Speaker Bios:
Michelle O’Neill is the Program Manager of the Ancillary Structures Program at MDOT and is responsible for developing a rating system, inspection guidelines, an asset management strategy, shop drawing approvals and updated design guides for the 16 ancillary structure types in the state. She has been at MDOT for 22 years and previously was the Operations Engineer in the Southwest Region. She is a graduate of Michigan Technological University and lives in Portage, Michigan.
Mike Halloran is the Structure Preservation Section Manager in the Bureau of Bridges and Structures at MDOT, which includes the Ancillary Structures unit, Emergency Structure Response, Statewide Bridge Maintenance Support, Reachall unit, Statewide Bridge Repair crew, Statewide Overhead Sign, and the Bridge Priority Preservation Design Squad. Mike has been with MDOT for 18 years and was previously the Region Bridge Engineer in the Southwest Region. He is also a graduate of Michigan Technological University and lives in Hopkins, Michigan.
