ASTM Participation
February 7, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 9:55 am CST
Location: Grand Ballroom C
Speaker: Jimmy Farrell – ASTM
Presentation Description
This presentation is aimed at educating attendees on ASTM International and our standards development process. ASTM committees are made up of volunteer members who participate in all aspects of an industry, and the more voices that participate, the more relevant the standards will be to the marketplace. Once and understanding is created on ASTM the organization, we will then give an overview of Committee C13 on Concrete Pipe to demonstrate how the committee is addressing all areas of standardization in the concrete pipe, concrete box sections and concrete manhole sections used for constructing sewers, culverts, irrigation and drainage systems, low pressure pipeline systems, and for factory-made compression and self-energizing joints.
Now that attendees know how to participate, two case studies will be shared by an ASTM member, highlighting: a need for standardization, how that idea got brought to C13, the way a task group works together to turn the need into a standard, the ASTM balloting process shaping the content of the standard to be relevant in industry, and finally its application as an approved document.
