Resilience & Sustainability in Delaware

February 7, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 1:25 pm CST

Location:  Grand Ballroom C

Speaker:  Jim Pappas, P.E., M.B.A. – DelDOT

Presentation Description:

As the lowest lying state in the nation, Delaware is familiar with the effects of climate change and sea level rise on the infrastructure.  We see this on a daily basis as some roads have overtopping of water due to tide and wind cycles, regardless of storm events.  Also known as “sunny day” flooding events, they are becoming more frequent and widespread across the state’s roadway network and cause an ever-increasing amount of concern as some of these roadways provide the vital link to communities that have only a single point of access.

Speaker Bio:

Jim received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware and Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Environmental Sustainability from Wilmington University. He’s worked for Delaware Department of Transportation for over 30 years. A majority of his time was in pavement and materials engineering then as Assistant Director of Performance Management, Deputy Director of Operations and Support, and now Director of Transportation Resiliency & Sustainability.
