February 12, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 10:55 am EST
Location: Kojo Kamau B – 4th Floor
Speaker: Bob Hildebranski, P.E. – Orion Engineers
Presentation Description:
Constructability reviews are conducted during various phases of a design effort. The structured review is performed to validate that a project can be built as designed, identify potential construction-related issues and develop & present alternatives to the design team for evaluation. The review is typically performed by a team member who is not directly involved in design document preparations and who is experienced in the construction phases of similarly-scoped projects.
“Constructability Reviews – A Primer” will cover various aspects of the process and provide attendees with principles, ideas & tools they can use in performing plan & constructability reviews for their organizations. The session will cover:
-The purpose of a constructability review
-Credentials of a constructability reviewer
-Checklists and why they are crucial components to a constructability review
-Tools for conveying constructability review comments
-A process for reviewing a set of contract documents that includes:
–Understanding the project parameters & scope at a high level
–Assembling documents & project strip maps to be used for the review
–Making a 30-minute scoping flip-through of the documents
–The importance of assessing the underground conditions
–Finding the “Big Rocks” first, then digging into the details
