West Virginia Corridor H Project

Presentation Description:

As part of the Appalachian Development Highway, Corridor H is one of the final routes to be constructed in West Virginia.  The intention of this route will be to provide connectivity between I-79 near Weston, WV and I-81 near Strasburg, VA.  The route was separated into several sections, of which 5 are currently under construction, with 2 remaining segments to complete the route to the Virginia State line.  During this discussion, we will cover a brief history of the projects and highlight some of the most interesting construction and challenges that have played a part in this rural 4 lane highways development that has been recognized by several engineering publications such as Engineering News Record and Bridges and Tunnels

Speaker Bios:

Mr. Raines currently is the Project Manager of the Corridor H projects with the West Virginia Division of Highways. Mr. Raines has worked for the WVDOH for 9 years on various bridge and roadway construction projects, with 7 of those years on Corridor H. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from WVU Tech.

Mr. Knavenshue currently is a Technical Manager II with Michael Baker International and assists the WVDOH on Corridor H Construction in Randolph and Tucker Counties.  Previously, Mr. Knavenshue served in several positions over 10 years within the WVDOH including Design Engineer and Assistant Maintenance Engineer, as well as working in the oil and gas industry with Halliburton Energy Services.  He earned a B.S. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from West Virginia University and holds Professional Engineer Registration in WV and VA.
