The beginning of most construction projects, and all too often, the detrimental failures of these projects are the soils which they sit on. Pipe infrastructure is no different… yet too often, we focus on everything but the soils. What do we need to know about this basic construction material? What are some of the physical attributes of soils that benefit and/or hurt us in the pipe industry?

Speaker Bios
Feras El-Ghussein
Feras El-Ghussein is a licensed civil engineer with a background in concrete materials. He received both his bachelors and masters of science degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After receiving his masters degree, he spent several years at a materials manufacturing firm working on specialty concrete products, including rapid setting concretes for highway repairs. He was also a Project Manager in the Materials Department at Terracon Consultants, where he oversaw several projects from cradle to grave. The projects ranged from building renovations, new construction, infrastructure and public projects, and laboratory testing of materials. His time at Terracon strengthened his background in other materials, including soils and how they are best used as construction materials.
