RCP Joint Design & Gaskets
February 8, 2023 @ 2:10 pm - 3:00 pm CST
Location: Grand Ballroom B
Speaker: Alan Siebenthaler – Hamilton Kent
Presentation Description
With the high costs of infrastructure, there is little doubt that watertight joints in underground conveyance and retention systems should remain watertight for their functional life, which in most cases is at least 100 years. This has led to growing specification and inspection of pipe projects throughout North America. This means that all parties involved, including owners, designers, inspectors, suppliers and installers need to have a good understanding of the:
– Various concrete pipe joint designs
– Assortment of gasket styles and materials
– Gasket and pipe testing procedures
– Gasket and pipe installation procedures
The purpose of this session is to provide attendees with improved understanding of all these factors and more so they can apply to them to their next project.
The key learning objectives of this presentation:
1) Understand the value of watertight joints
2) Distinguish the differences between typical joint designs in the concrete pipe industry
3) Recognize the variety of gaskets available for each joint design
4) Understand the process of gasket selection
5) Appreciate the importance of joint quality and gasket quality assurance
6) Realize the importance of proper gasket and pipe installation
